Fabric can be ordered in one meter increments. The minimum order is three meters and maximum is 50 meters. For larger orders please contact the main office – info@britishmillerain.com.

When you enter your address at the checkout the delivery charge will be automatically calculated for you.

All of our fabrics are water resistant, developed for outerwear garments.

We always ship our fabric with the technical face on the inside of the roll.

All our machine washable fabrics are pre-shrunk. Please review the wash care instructions on each product page.

If your order is being delivered outside of the European Community (EC), please be aware you may have to pay your countries import duty or other taxes. This is not the responsibility of British Millerain.

At British Millerain we inspect 100% of all meters that leave our warehouse. When we notice a fault in the fabric, we add a tag at the end of the roll in line with the fault. This gives an indication where the faults are positioned within the roll. For each fault we tag, we give an allowance of 0.2 meters free of charge.

Products may vary slightly from their pictures. The images of the products on our website and/or our promotional literature are for illustrative purposes only. Although we have made every effort to display the colours accurately, we cannot guarantee that a device’s display of the colours accurately reflects the colour of the products. Your product may vary slightly from those images. When processing natural cotton base cloth, there will be variation in shade from one production batch to another. We use our many years of experience to keep this to a minimum and within a commercial tolerance.

We cannot accept returns on cut or washed fabric. Please check your fabric carefully for faults before proceeding with cutting and sewing and review our full T&Cs on the website.

Where possible we will try and replace your goods, if this is not possible we will issue a full refund including shipping costs. You will be refunded by the original method of payment, either by PayPal or debit/credit card. We do not offer credit notes.

All of our fabrics will be sent rolled with the fabric technical face on the inside.

We only ever fulfil an order for fabric from one dye lot, off the same roll or batch of same rolls. Please ensure you order enough to complete your project in one order as we cannot guarantee we will have the same dye lot on your second order.

Waxed cotton is a unique finish, with distinct characteristics. There are a number of points to consider when transporting, storing and handling waxed cotton, both in roll form and garment form.

Wax is a ‘wet’ finish; it is not chemically fixed to the fabric. The wax is pressed into the cotton yarns under carefully controlled temperature and pressure - a process that we have refined and customised over more than a century. The surface of waxed cotton will mark and crease where handled and the wax will come off in areas where it is scraped or scuffed, such marks will appear lighter in colour. These markings are not faults and are a normal, inherent characteristic of the finish. 

The oily feel of the fabric will also dry during garment fabrication, age and wear, leading to garments with an appearance unique to the individual wearer.

Cotton is natural substrate, subtle variations in the cotton preparation can cause variation in the shade and level of wax from batch-to-batch. We use our many years of expertise to keep any variance to a minimum and within a commercial tolerance. Some variation in the level of wax/greasiness may be felt between old and new deliveries; this is normal, as the wax does dry out slightly during fabrication and therefore new production will feel wetter.

Traditional waxed fabric garments, bags and accessories must be lined, and the lining needs to have an oil-resistant finish. This will prevent migration of the wax onto the lining. All trims should also be treated.

Waxed fabrics cannot be exposed to heat, steam or ironed during garment manufacturing; doing so will lead to fabric discolouration as the wax will be dried by the heat.

Waxed fabrics should be transported and stored on the roll, supported horizontally and away from direct sunlight, heat or high humidity and packaged in breathable bags to avoid excessive moisture accumulation.

Some more tips for garment manufacturers:

• Waxed fabrics are not suitable for use with fused interlining and stiffeners – the heat used in the garment manufacturing process will dry out the wax and discolour the fabric.

• Avoid using cheap plastic zips, as they can contain pigments which are not colourfast and can discolour the wax fabric.

• Avoid painted fasteners; the wax can affect the paint.

• After completion of garment manufacturing, the machinery will need to be wiped down to avoid wax contaminating any following production.

• Ensure that your selected garment manufacturer is familiar with wax and is aware that the fabric should feel greasy / wet.

Traditional waxed fabric care instructions:

• Do not wash, do not dry clean, do not tumble-dry

• Do not iron

• Do not bleach

• Brush off mud when dry and sponge the area with cold water

• Avoid contact with alcohol-based products, fabric softeners and solvent cleaners

• Never use soap or detergents

• Regular re-proofing with Millerain wax will maintain the weatherproof properties of the fabric and prolong garment life
